Summary: An evolving visual language for Laugh, Think, Cry, my latest favorite side project

With this project, the only other opinion was Andrew’s and we were creating a brand from scratch so there was a ton of room to explore.
We decided to start this podcast project when we both had a bit of freedom from our usual workload. We wanted to explore a direct relationship with creativity, unfiltered by anything but expression.
We didn’t even know what the podcast would be about. We just knew that any time we collaborated on a creative project, our conversations always drifted toward deeper topics, lessons we were learning, discoveries we were making. We wanted to capture the essence of this style of communication – this authentic sharing and relating that we both learned so much from.
Being fastidious overachievers, we decided to find a theme, record some episodes and of course, create a visual language and a website. We’re still in the midst of finalizing our first few episodes. Work and family have slowed our progress but sometimes projects need a slow simmer and the stir-fry gets moved up to the front burner.
For the visual language we needed a style that was unique, authentic and fast. We wanted to create different imagery for each episode without bogging ourselves down with too much work. We decided we would both get a set of the same color markers and we would just do a quick sketch whenever we needed an image. We use photos sometimes as well but the colors and illustration style are the cohesive components of the “Laugh, Think, Cry” brand.
