Making Connections

12/28/2024

Recently, I've had the opportunity to work with two different start-ups in very different industries. Through conversation and collaboration, we created pitch decks that would convey the value they personally saw in their ventures, while crafting visuals and copy that would capture and hold the attention of their audience.

It's funny how if you just ask a few more questions, let someone talk a little more, you'll eventually get to the heart of why they're passionate about what they're doing. It's the details and the asides that can really bring more heart and authenticity to a message.

I bring this up because it's an example of how my approach is different than other creatives. I want to learn the story, and then tell it. I want to create genuine connection, through words, images, and the time it takes to move through them.

We're inundated by media every day. I think what stands out isn't necessarily louder, or prettier – it's more authentic, more real. I think people are tired of being sold. People want to connect, learn and expand. All these desires will lead to transactions but to captivate attention, I think language and design both need to advance.

Language to "sell" is getting boring. Connection is gaining intrigue.
